How to Use (for Different Age Groups)
Using this printable couldn’t be easier—simply download the PDF, print it on regular paper and have your child count all the matching items so that they can write down the totals on the provided lines.
If needed, this activity can also be adapted to suit different age groups:
- Younger kids: To help them keep track of which items they’ve counted, have your child cross out each item as they count it. They can even use different colors to cross out different types of items, or keep track of the items they’ve counted on a whiteboard or separate sheet of paper.
- Older kids: Want to make this activity more challenging? Encourage your child to rely solely on their memory instead of crossing out the items they’ve counted. You can even up the ante by setting a timer and having them race the clock, either on their own or as part of a competition to see who can count the fastest!
When your children are done counting, have them double-check their answers using the provided answer sheet to make sure they have counted all the items correctly.
Printing Instructions
After you have downloaded the PDF to your computer, print the file on Letter-sized (8.5 x 11 inches) paper and give it to your little one so they can practice counting all of the items.
Want to print this activity on A4 paper? That should be possible as well, but since this printable was designed in US Letter format, you may need to adjust the “Scale to Fit” setting on your printer to ensure that none of the printable area is being cut off.
How to Make This Printable Reusable
Hate the thought of wasting paper and ink by printing this activity multiple times? After printing the I Spy sheet, make it reusable by using a thermal laminator or self-laminating sheet to laminate it, or by placing it inside a plastic page protector or dry erase pocket.
This will allow your child to cross out the images they’ve counted and write the totals using washable or dry erase markers, then wipe the sheet clean and store it for future use.
