With a newborn at home and four other kids under the age of eight, camping isn’t quite feasible for us these days. But before the kids were born, my husband, my stepson and I used to take off every summer to go camping for a week or so.

Spending a whole week in the great outdoors—fishing, playing cards, going on nature hikes and spending some quality time together—did us so much good. We’re looking forward to our younger kids being old enough for us to resume this tradition!

If your family likes to go camping too, you may be looking for some fun camping activities to do with them to pass the time. And if that’s the case, this printable camping scavenger hunt is a great way to keep your kids entertained while spending time outdoors!

Make sure you grab it below and bring it with you on your next camping trip.

Who Is This Activity For?

This printable is perfect for kids of all ages! It includes both text labels and images, which means that older kids can read the words, while younger kids who haven’t learned how to read can simply look at the pictures and match them to what they’re seeing.

How to Print This Activity

After you download the PDF file to your computer, print it on Letter-sized (8.5 x 11 inches) paper and take it with you on your next family camping trip. If you are printing it on A4 paper, you’ll need to double-check the “Scale to Fit” setting on your printer to make sure that none of the printable area is being cut off.

Because this is an outdoor activity, I highly recommend that you laminate the printable in order to make it more durable. You can do this by using a thermal laminator or self-laminating sheets, or even by placing it inside a dry erase pocket.

If none of those options are available to you, try printing the scavenger hunt on cardstock, which is thicker than regular copy paper and won’t get damaged or torn as easily.

How to Use This Printable

Once you have printed it out, go for a walk around your campground and take this scavenger hunt sheet with you. Every time you encounter one of the items on the list, check it off.

(If you laminated the printable, you can use a dry erase marker, then wipe it clean and save it for next time. You’ll can even reuse the printable several times during the same camping trip.)

For added fun, you can also try taking a photo of each item as you check it off the list, or adding a little friendly competition by printing out multiple copies and breaking up into small groups to see who can find all the items the fastest. (Prizes optional!)
