Required Materials

- Toilet paper roll: If you don’t have any on hand, you can also use the cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels, and cut it in half so that it’s a more appropriate length.
- Glue: Liquid school glue will work best for this project.
- Googly eyes: The ones I used were about 7 mm and 10 mm—I thought using two different sizes looked cute, but you can use two of the same size if you prefer. An adhesive backing is not required for this project, as you’ll be using liquid glue to stick them onto the toilet paper roll. Personally, I have a large googly eye set with multiple sizes that I use for a ton of crafts!
- Scissors: I don’t recommend using plastic safety scissors for this. Regular metal scissors are best.
- Tissue paper: You’ll need white tissue paper for this project. Ideally, you’ll want to buy the large format, not small sheets, as you’ll need to wrap it around the toilet paper roll. I bought mine at the dollar store, but you can reuse any gift wrapping materials that you have lying around. If you don’t have any tissue paper, you can use toilet paper, paper towels or even a roll of gauze.

How to Make a Paper Roll Mummy (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Add googly eyes to cardboard tube. Use liquid school glue to glue two googly eyes about an inch from the top of an empty toilet paper roll.

Step 2: Cut tissue paper. Cut some white tissue paper into long strips about ½ inch to 1 inch in width.

Step 3: Add glue. Add a bit of liquid glue to one end of a strip of tissue paper, then add a few small dots of glue all around the toilet paper roll.

Step 4: Cover toilet paper roll. Press the glue-covered end of the tissue paper onto the toilet paper roll, then slowly wrap the tissue paper around the roll, making sure to gently press down onto the dots of glue to help the tissue paper adhere. Continue wrapping it around, leaving some space around the googly eyes and adding more glue as needed, until the paper roll is fully wrapped up. Finish off the craft by adding a bit of glue to the end of the last strip of tissue paper and pressing it onto the mummy to hold it in place.
This project was super simple to make, but it was a fun one! I love how cute and goofy it looks with the two different-sized eyes. Even younger kids should be able to join in on the fun, which makes this craft perfect for parents with multiple children.

Helpful Tips
- Keep adding more glue: As you wrap the tissue paper around the toilet paper roll, keep adding small dots of glue and pressing the tissue paper onto the glue in order to help it stay in place.
- Fold the tissue paper: For best results, fold the tissue paper unevenly as you wrap it around the toilet paper roll. (No need to be precise or even fold it along its entire length.)
- Use different-sized googly eyes: This is optional, but I used two different-sized googly eyes for my mummy—one 7 mm and one 10 mm—because I thought it looked cuter.
- Replace the tissue paper: Don’t have tissue paper at home? Try using toiler paper, paper towels or gauze. Just make sure you cut them into strips of about ½ inch to 1 inch in width.
- Reveal the mummy’s eyes: If you accidentally cover too much of the eyes while wrapping the tissue paper around the toilet paper roll, you can gently tuck the tissue paper into itself to create more room.
