Free 4th of July I Spy (+ Answer Key!)

The last things parents need during holidays is to spend extra time prepping complicated activities. So if you’re in need of a low-prep alternative that will give you back a little bit of time while you’re prepping for your next social event, this printable activity is the perfect way to do that.

Grab the free file below and print it out for your kids so they can try to count all the items and write down their answers on the provided lines. The file even includes an answer key that kids can use to check their answers without the help of an adult!

How to Use (for Different Age Groups)

The goal of this I Spy activity is for kids to count all the matching images and write the totals on the provided lines.

Depending on your family’s needs, this activity can be adapted for different age groups:

• Younger kids: Have your kids cross out each item as they count it in order to better keep track of which ones they’ve counted. To make things even easier, they can use different colors to cross out different types of items, or keep track of each one on a whiteboard or separate sheet of paper.
• Older kids: Make this activity more challenging by encouraging your kids to rely solely on their memory instead of crossing things out. You can even set a timer and have them race the clock (or another child) for an added challenge!

Once your children are done counting, they can double-check their answers using the answer sheet to make sure they have arrived at the right count.

Printing Instructions

Once you have downloaded the PDF to your computer, simply print it on Letter-sized (8.5 x 11 inches) paper and hand it to your child so they can practice counting all of the images.

If you wish to print this activity on A4 paper, you’ll likely need to adjust the “Scale to Fit” setting on your printer to ensure that none of the printable area is being cut off during printing.

How to Make This Printable Reusable

If your child enjoys this activity and you want them to be able to use the sheet multiple times without wasting more paper, you can use a thermal laminator or self-laminating sheet to laminate it, or place it inside a plastic page protector or dry erase pocket.

If you choose to do this, your child will be able to cross out the images and write the numbers on the lines using washable or dry erase markers, then wipe the sheet clean and store it for future use.
